As a senior counsellor I have worked in private practice for almost 20 years. During this time, I have gained valuable experience and knowledge whilst working with my clients. Individually, clients bring into therapy a wide range of issues and concerns that we explore together to find a solution that is right for them.
My aim is to assist my clients to gain a greater depth of self-awareness which will enable them in processing issues.
Added to this, I joined Cruse Bereavement Care in 1998 to present day, as a volunteer and in 2002 went on to become a supervisor, also during this time I became an accredited bereavement volunteer.
Loss and grief can come in many guises, therefore, my work with Cruse has been invaluable. For some of my clients, it helps them to focus on their loss or losses during childhood and this may be either through sexual abuse, death or other causes, such as attachment disorder and the trauma of dissociation.
My experience also covers victims of Domestic Violence and rape and the consequences relating to this. Support and counselling is paramount for survivors to be able to enjoy a fulfilling life, a life they were always entitled too!
Furthermore, my passion and commitment to counseling are on the same level now as at the beginning of my career. My aim is to support an individual through whatever issues they are finding difficult to deal with. I am a registered member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework for good practice.
Specialties: I have extensive experience relating to grief and loss, as a Supervisor and volunteer Counsellor the charity Cruse Bereavement Care for many years.
Through my work with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and rape, I have gained a profound understanding of this crime. However, for many survivors, the first step to recovery from such a traumatic experience is to be believed, heard and most importantly to be aware they were not to blame!
For many people, life is like a small sapling that grows into a mighty tree. As it grows its roots go deeper and deeper into the earth anchoring themselves into the soil. The roots spread out in many directions but this is just reinforcing the saplings strength.
By the same token, above the surface, for a tree to grow it needs light, sunshine and rain when all the right conditions are in place, the tree will reach its full potential and stand majestically for many years. It will add branches over time and leaves will form, grow and even die off. But so long as this process continues, with its needs being met it will flourish. The tree will stand confident and strong for many many years.
But sadly, like people, many trees wither and die if the right conditions are not there to support them. Branch stems can break off in stormy weather, leaves don't develop, it may be starved of life-giving oxygen at times. But when the foundations are strong and the roots continue to develop the tree will survive against all odds.
I feel life in general is like this for many individuals also!
Like the tree, maybe you're stronger than you realize but just need the space and time to develop and grow. It helps to understand exactly what it is that could be holding you back from reaching for the sky and with counselling, this happens for many people. Just being able to manage life's challenges can help to improve a person's self-worth.
I am a responsible, understanding and most importantly, a caring counsellor. I am client-led and progress at an individually-set pace. With this approach, working together almost any emotional obstacle can be overcome.
